Across almost two decades, Luke Younger has put a bottomless array of sound-sources and oblique strategies to use in the name of making a post-industrial soundtrack befitting London’s decay. As Helm, Younger’s work often hits upon its most nightmarish and abstract, unfurling across lengthy concrète collages or bursts post-ambient noise slop. Recent efforts have been some of Helm’s most accessible – though darkest – recordings, beckoning submerged beats and distant melodies back from across the horizon to bring Younger’s brutalist surroundings back into sharp relief.
