bela is an electronic musician based in Berlin and Seoul. Their newest performance incorporates pungmul – a tradition of music & dance rooted in Korean agriculture built on distinct rhythms, metallic clanging, spiralling movements, and colourful costume – into a new queer ritual of rage and grief. bela’s meticulous research involved deep dives into archived pungmul sheet music and video documents of performances, building a decolonised, distinctly new, and freshly distorted vision of a centuries-old tradition.
